Ruleset 2026.10 · Guidance reviewed 2026-10-01
How the Visa Readiness Score works
The score comes from fixed, published rules, never from an AI guess. The same answers always give the same result, and every finding shows where it comes from.
Three types of checks
- Official requirement: based on publicly available UK Visitor Visa rules or guidance.
- Consistency check: checks whether your answers conflict with each other.
- Readiness indicator: an internal heuristic used to identify areas worth reviewing. These are not UKVI thresholds.
Category weights
Each category starts at 100 and is reduced by the findings it contains. The overall score is the weighted average.
| Category | Weight |
|---|---|
| Purpose & Trip | 20% |
| Financial Preparedness | 20% |
| Return Circumstances | 20% |
| Funding | 10% |
| Travel History | 10% |
| Consistency | 15% |
| Completeness | 5% |
Weighting alone could hide one serious issue inside an otherwise strong profile, so an important finding limits the overall score to 69, and two or more limit it to 49. Your report shows when this applies.
Readiness bands
| Band | Score |
|---|---|
| Strongly Prepared | 85–100 |
| Generally Prepared | 70–84 |
| Areas to Review | 50–69 |
| Significant Gaps | 30–49 |
| Major Information Gaps | 0–29 |
Why we ask these questions
The Visitor rules focus on whether someone is a genuine visitor: that they intend to leave at the end of the visit, will only do permitted activities, and have enough money for the trip. Our questions map to those themes. We ask for approximate figures only, and never for passport numbers, bank details or documents.
Every rule
- 01ImportantOfficial requirement
Your planned activities may include work for a UK organisation.
Published Standard Visitor guidance says visitors cannot do paid or unpaid work for a UK company or as a self-employed person.
Purpose & Trip · -40 points
- 02ReviewConsistency check
Business meetings are planned alongside another main purpose.
A visit can include meetings. Your answers combine two purposes, so the main purpose needs clarifying rather than being judged automatically.
Purpose & Trip · -8 points
- 03ImportantConsistency check
Your departure date is before your arrival date.
The travel dates you entered do not form a valid trip.
Consistency · -30 points
- 04ImportantOfficial requirement
Your planned stay is longer than 6 months.
Published guidance says Standard Visitors can usually stay for up to 6 months.
Purpose & Trip · -40 points
- 05ReviewReadiness indicator
You have not yet decided where you will stay.
Your trip plan does not yet include accommodation details.
Purpose & Trip · -8 points
- 06ReviewConsistency check
Your planned trip is longer than the approved leave you entered.
The trip length and the leave approved by your employer do not match.
Consistency · -25 points
- 07ReviewReadiness indicator
You have not entered approved leave for this trip.
You said you are employed, but no approved leave was entered.
Return Circumstances · -6 points
- 08ReviewConsistency check
You live in a country other than your nationality, with no residence permit recorded.
Your status in the country where you live is part of your application. This check does not decide whether your residence is lawful.
Return Circumstances · -12 points
- 09ReviewConsistency check
Your residence permit expires before your planned departure.
The permit end date and your travel dates do not line up.
Return Circumstances · -15 points
- 10ImportantConsistency check
Your reported trip cost is higher than the funds you reported.
The information you entered suggests a funding gap.
Financial Preparedness · -45 points
- 11ReviewReadiness indicator
The trip cost represents a relatively large portion of the funds you reported.
This is an internal readiness indicator, not a UKVI threshold. UKVI does not publish a minimum balance for visitors.
Financial Preparedness · -15 points
- 12For informationReadiness indicator
The trip cost is more than three months of the income you reported.
This is an internal readiness indicator used to highlight how the trip fits your reported finances.
Financial Preparedness · -6 points
- 13ReviewReadiness indicator
You plan to pay for the trip yourself and reported no regular income.
Your funding information relies entirely on existing funds.
Financial Preparedness · -20 points
- 14ReviewConsistency check
Your monthly expenses are higher than your monthly income.
Regular costs above income make the source of the trip funds harder to follow, so the funding story needs a clear explanation.
Financial Preparedness · -20 points
- 15ReviewReadiness indicator
You have recent large deposits that you cannot yet explain.
Unexplained deposits are a common theme in public refusal reports we reviewed. This is not an official requirement, and a deposit is not a problem on its own.
Financial Preparedness · -20 points
- 16ReviewReadiness indicator
Some of the money for the trip may be borrowed.
Borrowed money is different from money you have saved, so it is worth describing separately.
Financial Preparedness · -15 points
- 17ReviewConsistency check
Another person will pay for your trip, but their relationship to you has not been entered.
Information about who is funding the trip is incomplete.
Funding · -20 points
- 18ReviewConsistency check
Information about the finances of the person paying has not been entered.
You said someone else will pay for some or all of the trip.
Funding · -15 points
- 19ReviewConsistency check
The amount the person paying will contribute is higher than the trip cost.
A contribution larger than the whole trip suggests the amounts overlap or were entered by mistake.
Funding · -10 points
- 20For informationReadiness indicator
You started your current job less than 6 months ago.
This is an internal readiness indicator. A recent job change is common and not a problem on its own.
Return Circumstances · -8 points
- 21ReviewReadiness indicator
Your answers do not describe any ties to your home country.
The Visitor rules require applicants to intend to leave the UK at the end of their visit. Your answers do not yet show what you will return to.
Return Circumstances · -25 points
- 22ReviewConsistency check
Your visit purpose is business, but you said you are not currently working.
Your stated purpose and your employment information appear to point in different directions.
Consistency · -15 points
- 23ReviewConsistency check
You listed a job as a home commitment, but you said you are not currently working.
Your job is not counted as a reason to return, because your employment answer says you are not working.
Consistency · -10 points
- 24ReviewConsistency check
You entered a monthly income, but you said you are not currently working.
Income that is not from work, such as savings interest or benefits, is possible, but its source should be clear.
Consistency · -15 points
- 25ReviewConsistency check
You said you are a student but are not currently enrolled.
Your employment status and study answers appear inconsistent.
Return Circumstances · -12 points
- 26ImportantOfficial requirement

Previous immigration decisions can materially affect an application, and this tool cannot assess them in detail.
Travel History · -30 points
- 27ReviewReadiness indicator
You have not described anything that has changed since your last refusal.
A new application after a refusal is read alongside the earlier decision. In public refusal reports we reviewed, the same concerns often came up again.
Travel History · -15 points
- 28ImportantConsistency check
You have not declared every previous refusal.
Previous refusals are relevant to visa applications, and this tool cannot judge how they should be declared.
Travel History · -35 points
- 29ImportantOfficial requirement
You reported a previous overstay or immigration breach.
Previous breaches of immigration rules are addressed in the official grounds for refusal, and this tool cannot assess them.
Travel History · -60 points
- 30For informationReadiness indicator
You have not reported any previous international travel.
This is an internal readiness indicator. Many first-time travellers apply successfully; it simply means there is no travel history to draw on.
Travel History · -10 points
- 31ReviewReadiness indicator
Some key information is marked as not available.
Missing documents are a common theme in public refusal reports we reviewed. This tool does not check documents; it only records that they are not available to you.
Completeness · -10 points
- 32For informationReadiness indicator
Some evidence items need an explanation.
You marked items as needing an explanation. This shows where your answers need more context; it is not a weakness on its own.
Completeness · -5 points

What the score is not
It is not an approval probability. UKVI does not publish a points system for visitor visas, and we have no access to how individual decisions are made. We do not use past applicants' outcomes to make claims about your chances.
